Can I Please Have the Old House

The house had not had inhabitants for forty years
maybe longer; people complained that it was haunted.
The house was in disrepair, falling apart inside, sad and lonely
From grief and heartache
Few heard her moans or night creaks now.

One day a great-great-granddaughter asked if she could have the house.
The rest of the family gave her a hearty yes.
Except for one Great-aunt who demanded some money.
She gave her what she had, and moved in
She loved the house. She found charm and beauty
Among the spider webs and the yellowed newspapers

She discovered character and loveliness
There was a certain feeling about the place
She felt overjoyed, she felt loved, she felt protected, she felt home
Not realizing that
her great-great-grandmother recognized her and allowed her to stay
Without any spookiness
knowing she would restore her home
to the beauty she used to be.
