Love Poem: Burning Flame

Burning Flame

Those who confess to have loved and lost is still better than not to have known love,
have obviously never loved at all.
As you awake the image of that person can either soar the soul
or the image can haunt your very existence.
I have loved and I have lost to to my greatest cost.
The pain without you can not be described,
how my heart breaks inside,
For every time I close my eyes I see your smile,
and a tear rolls down my grief stricken face.
I pray for the pain to stop and to leave this empty shell,
but still it persists like a burning flame,
never to go out to my everlasting pain.

I lay awake each night afraid to close my eyes, afraid to fall asleep,
my dreams are haunted by that which once was.
The pain inside grows stronger with every absent day,
the burning flame fueled by remorse and regret
for those decisions I wish I could forget.
Often do I hear a whisper and glance behind my shoulder,
To only be disappointed,
it is not my loves voice but that of a stranger.
Am I being punished and tortured,
Is the ever burning flame slowly swallowing my sanity,
I have seemed to have lost all integrity.

I awaken again and shout, burning flame please go out,
my cries go unanswered every day,
oh how I wish I could slip away,
to dreams forgotten all so far away.
But I know I should let go, and forget for my very soul.
But love is in my heart forever it shall remain,
for no longer do you belong to me,
my heart shall always remain,
to the one that fuels the burning flame.
