Braid My Hair

Braid My Hair

Won’t you please braid my hair?
As you part your legs and I sit in between.
I feel the strength of your thighs as I close my eyes
And you comb those rough edges….
Tweaks of pain as you comb my mane.
Neither one of us verbal
But our spirits just won’t stop conversing…
As you braid my hair.

Come on and braid my hair.
As you lay parts for foundation
And fill each crease with that soothing oil
That nourishes my scalp….and my soul.
Once you’ve covered the entire dome
You massage that balm into my scalp…into my pores.
Your touch heals my sores and I have no choice
But to mute that negative voice…
As you braid my hair.

Just be patient and braid my hair.
As you grab strands and intertwine
My precious locks into rows so effortlessly…
So effectively.
I sit as a child in anticipation
Patiently awaiting the unveiling of your creation.
Will you accent my beauty or reveal my flaws?
In your eyes, do I even have flaws at all?
I sit still and tall only moving my head
According to your directions.
I have faith in your skill; I trust your protection.

We sit in peace and in calm.
There’s no place here for harm…not between you and I.
And since the rest of the world is out there
For them we have no care
As I heal you and you heal me….
As you braid my hair.

When you are done, I stand and behold your talent
Smiling at myself in the mirror like a little girl.
And you enjoy the thrill.
Who could have known two souls
Could bond so strongly through one simple action.
Your willingness to accept the challenge
And my faith in you for even asking
Is enough to send us both basking
To a spiritual place that we’ve both been lacking…

And I abruptly awake from the dream that I was having.
A dream that left me both sighing and laughing.
And I eagerly await the day that will come….
At some point in my life when I’ll ask you
Though bashfully…
Will you please braid my hair?
