Boyhood Optimism
T'was a bright new world way back when
My whole future lay just up ahead
Nothing could have ever darkened my skies
Had absolutely nothing to dread
The powers that be had a handle on things
We went about our daily routine
Never worried about the ills of the world
As content as we've ever been
As I've grown older and now a senior
Still have that boyhood optimism
There's still killings and much destruction
But positive in spite of the isms
The world has never been an idyllic place
Since the very beginning of time
So go with the flow it's the best thing to do
Things will seem brighter you'll find
May seem like an ruddy expert on life
That person has yet to be born
Just bumble along as best that you can
And wake with a smile each morn
T'was a bright new world way back when
