Love Poem: Birds

Birds

Spastic in flight,
Fluttering wings,
Hard landing,
Proud demeanor,
Not totally new to life,
but very new to living life,
The Mother lands next to her young,
after providing overhead protection and guided independence,
The little ones wings open,
"Look at all the seeds I found" his pronounced stance screams!
Mouth open....
Mom snaps down at the seeds like a bench player in the dugout waiting for the call from the coach.
Taking her impatience out on the seed.
Peck,
Snap back,
another string cut as the summer takes over springs yield,
Up to the telephone wires,
strung pole to pole,
Little flights for the little one to practice landings,
her little bird,
spastic lift off to another wire,
Father away,
The call,
The honing the skills,
turning her baby into the next bird of high wire northeast flight,
The new days gift to me,
Witnessing the beautiful love of her child.
