Love Poem: Beyond the Shine

Beyond the Shine

Men lined up to fall down these stairs
willingly, falling over each other to fall first
and laugh last as each victim learns from burns
  burning incessantly, unforgiving and fragile
I toed this line and peered the edge
this fools ledge draws crowds like
   glitzty carnival amusements

Her cotton candy lips and
roller coaster curves disturb my calm
and reason, leaving every rational action
a far off place I forget exists
Curls sway tracing her face lively
she brushes them aside gracefully
always smiling when she speaks

Apprehensive, stepping past
piles of slain suitors and pretenders
carrying my worth without pretense and braggadocio
I'll seek this grail and sense this sweet
   ambrosia
Spying her demise from the inside
attacking the fortification with intellect
bypassing the fornication until our threads are woven
like skilled artisans tapestries
tap into me...fill and drink
listen and think...talk and flow back naturally
capture me with the allures unseen
to the corpses I stepped past to find you
