Love Poem: Beloved and Familiar Heart

Beloved and Familiar Heart

Beloved and familiar heart,
the pain of loss, nay, just the thought
of letting go, my mind does start
to reel and toss, to plan and plot

How cruel that, how very wicked
the fairest souls, the truest love
so random and unfairly picked
to leave us for their place above

My heart, my heart must surely break
for your leaving and the hole it leaves
no face, no heart, no soul may take
your place, or comfort I that grieve

I bargain, but all so fruitlessly
to keep, nay, just embrace you longer
but fate moves on relentlessly
a force of which there is none stronger

Beloved and familiar heart,
I cannot halt those gentle wings
that fly for you, your journey's start
your destination's better things

Beloved and familiar heart,
my eyes, ere yearn to see your face
some day, twill be my journey's start
please wait for me, please save a place
