Love Poem: Before Promises Were Lies

Before Promises Were Lies

Before our feet touched the ground
And love was asked to run, walk, but not fly
And it task to trust that which we could not see,
But only sense and feel
And dance without music,
And against the channel of the wind

Before we could feel our hearts
Beat violently against the walls of our chest and
Our lungs empty, dry grasping for God’ precious
Breathe

Before our legs burned from lactic acid build up
Caused by endless usage and eternal exhaustion;
Before the lightness of our selves transformed into galumph self awareness

Before all our hands could do were hang,
Limp, lifeless by our sides;
Before all our arms could only was to abstain from their expanse,
Before the aborted forgiveness of the other;

Before our eyes were arid from too many tears
And too much tearless-ness,
And our mouths perfused malodorous verbiages;
And breathless profanity cut our sacred throats
Before being hurdled at the last soft, vulnerable, defenseless tissue of the other

Before . . . when it was only God, when the sun and the moon bowed
Before us, vessels for the gift of Divine Love, our bodies knowing
Before our minds, egos, pride.
Before when the universe of stars applauded our every unison breathe;
Before it was time for us to accept the gift;
We were God.
