Love Poem: Becoming We

Becoming We

As I think back on old times,
when you and I first met.
I had just turned twenty-one.
You weren’t quite twenty, yet!

I was a college senior,
you were in your sophomore year.
So, our chance to meet was slim-to-none,
or so it would appear!

Turns out we had a mutual friend.
Unbeknownst to me and you!
He knew us both a little while.
At least a year or two!

He and I hadn’t spoken,
for about a month or more.
Then one day, just by chance,
we met each other, in a store!

We were both pressed for time.
So, what we agreed to do,
was get together, very soon,
and discuss a thing or two.

We had a short discussion
and made a dinner date!
He asked if he could bring a friend!
I replied, that would be great!

That was a lucky, twist of fate!
Which, was surely, meant to be!
For us to meet and fall in love,
seems was our destiny!

Once he introduced us,
we established great rapport!
We had so much in common,
we could not have asked for more!

Our friend could not have realized,
that he was our go-between!
That we’d end up together,
once we did convene!

Lately, life has been a pleasure!
I must affirm, that’s true!
Our friend, gets all the credit!
Cause he introduced me to you!

Now, whenever I get stressed,
or feel I’m not quite me,
I just reminisce, about what it was,
that lead, to you and I, becoming “we”!
