Love Poem: Awake

Awake

Outside a dog
roams the streets
the city is awake
no one is asleep

He is a creature
of the night
biting the men and women
who refuse to dream

love is not a dream
I dream her
to awake and seek me
to find me on the moist earth

Our love is not a dream
her kisses exist
her tender brown flesh exists
her kisses linger in my mouth

One day soon
we will ride horses
into the sunset of orange sky
take refuge along side the sea

I am awake
my bed a silent boat
in landscape of open eyes
moss grows on my ceiling

Creatures of the night
prowl and sniff
fire hydrants and street corners
there is no sleep

The night owl calls
moon is climbing through the sky
I feel her warm love
like the moon in my arms...
