Love Poem: Awaiting In the Dark

Awaiting In the Dark

Years I have known, lean and long
Hard going like a winter's night
Teeth and yellow eyes
Awaiting in the dark.

Yet never was there reason not to travel on,
For at every journey's end, there waited you.

These eyes know of no grander sight
Beneath wild seas or burning skies
Than those soft green within your sweet face,
Awaiting in the dark.

Though cold without the world may seem,
In the evening as the embers die
There is yet the comfort of our bed
Awaiting in the dark.

And ever is there reason yet to travel on,
Since at every journey's end, there yet you wait.

New dreams are born from our sleeping sighs
Love transcending the quiet of the dead.
We rest assured of finding one another in the night,
Awaiting in the dark.
