Love Poem: Autumn Magic

Autumn Magic

There's something in the air this time of year,
That churns the deepest embers of my soul,
Once rooted in the start of each school year,
Mixed with that earthy crispness of the cold.

The thrills of sports and studies, ivy-bound,
And school traditions held within the eaves,
Still even more, that kindred heart I'd found
Through crazy, callow love among the leaves.

I gladly drowned whene'er I chanced to swim
Sweet waters of her flesh and soul and mind,
Now mem'ries fall like leaves from each old limb,
Though, still, these relic eyes can clearly find ...

There, deep within the fading autumn's mist,
A yearning for the sweetheart I once kissed.
