Autumn Hues

Autumn Hues

Oh autumn, let your brilliant hues seep into my soul.
Let the sweet scent of pumpkin pie return memories
Of childhood days of Thanksgiving with members long passed.
Bless us with their graceful wisdom. I remember grandpa sleeping
Before dinnertime imbibing a bit too much grog.
We'd call to him, "gramps...turkey's done", and he'd say"so what!"
And go back to sleep. With grandma gone, holidays hurt,
I can see that now, now that our kids have grown and gone
A longing creeps in of holidays filled with laughter.
I wonder and hope and wait. Will they come again?
