Love Poem: Asleep With Eyes Open

Asleep With Eyes Open

He sits in a chair
Looking out to nowhere
Haunted blank stare
Open eyes unaware

Sitting in a chair with wheels
No one knows what he feels
Is there anything for him that's real

A young girl visits every day
She hates to see him this way
He used to have so much to say
She longs for him to be okay

His body is near
Yet his mind isn't here
locked away by fear
Look close you may see a tear

Through his darkness he hears her voice
Awakened he makes a choice
His dry tongue becomes moist

Back to reality
From the brink of infinity
Her love sets him free
Brings him where he's supposed to be

He paid a terrible cost
So many years were lost
A mind locked in frost

The victim of war
Shook to his core
He couldn't take anymore
So his mind shut the door

Finally he is awake
First tentative steps to make
She holds him as he starts to shake
Yes they have a new journey to take

A soul awakened contest.
