Love Poem: Ask This of Yourself

Ask This of Yourself

Does the butterfly dream of (or gravitate more) to the form
That emerges from silk (spun cocoons)? Does the mist
Of a waterfall know it births rainbows, sense honor in fall?
Though it plummets scant inches or thousands of feet,
Does it know it scents air with a nurturing fragrance that wakes
Up new forests, burnt seeds lying dormant, serves light-
nings suggestion that change is life’s answer, it’s prayer, its hope?
Does Truth grok role it plays in all gardens, all verse?

Though whole stanza alone seems bereft of rhyme, am I perverse,
All words foreplay? Connection delayed sees a dope?
You need lovers to kiss you whose breath matches yours? Love’s polite?
Do you know what you want or is Love just what shakes
And brakes bones? Don’t both pain and true healing yield strength? Is it sweet
To find Love that is gift wrapped? The cover’s not all
As it hides what’s inside! Does life give you the things you resist?
Is resisting life futile? Should Love be our norm?

If it seems like I offer more questions than answers to you,
Do I honor your spirit by selling you mine,
My thoughts look more uplifting, ensconced as they are in a rhyme?
Is this setting just fool’s gold? My will’s to deceive
Or share here with no price tag, to offer both shade and a taste
Of what pushes me forward, the breeze at my back
That encourages weeding in more than my garden? The fruit
Of my labor (my harvest), invites me instead!

Should man’s church be sufficient to prove the idea ‘God’s dead?’
Now, (when gold’s given out), is your chance at fame moot?
Should you give fame a chance or is self-worth a dream that you lack
And to place in the top ten a sign you’re disgraced?
I don’t know you, God knows (if He does), but I grieve,
His son died on the cross (if He did) in His prime!
And if Christ groks your worth, voids your sin, is his Love asinine?
Show Him stable’s respite, if you dream that it’s true!
