Love Poem: As If You Were the Sun

As If You Were the Sun

Careful, the love we share,
As silent little animals.
My heart appears to rotate around you
As if you were the sun.
And in this long, cold engagement
I've detached my mnd from the games of the soul,
Though its a little like pretending
There are not rows of canons behind us
That don't await the flick of gunpowder to wick,
Or if the slow and shutter of spring finds us,
Like butterflies circling, elliptical weaving.
Though you're no butterfly...

Eyes like two dark sorcerers
Daring some magic just four feet away.
Careful, cold, and wanting.
