Love Poem: Angel
Julie Smith Avatar
Written by: Julie Smith

Angel

You once called me
A special name
I never heard it
Ever again

There was this guy
Handsome, called Luke
Who loved a girl
In my favourite book

Beautiful looks
And golden blonde hair
Porcelain face
And her skin so fair

She ran away
Broken and brave
Her rich parents abused her
She wasn't safe

She owned a doll
Her step-dad had made
She also called her
By that special name

She wanted to go
To Texas for cover
She missed the train
But she found a lover

When he saw her he knew
That she was his girl
They married the next day
In a little church

He was her saviour
Took her to his home
Up in the hills
All her luxury gone

But she had never
Felt more alive
Blissful and happy
Than as Luke's wife

He called her Angel
He changed her name
After her doll
Now one and the same

They were so close
It seemed like forever
They wanted to spend
The future together

But bad luck was on them
Her parents' curse
And the cold winter
To make it worse

She died one night
And left Luke alone
His world was shattered
His Angel was gone

Now all that is left
Is some words in a book
And the memory of
Angel and Luke

I hope you will someday
Call me again
By this heavenly
Special name

For I got a dream
That only you can fulfill
A sweet little girl and to call her
Angel
