An Angel Unaware

ANGEL UNAWARE

There are angels here among us yes, I know for a truth,
There were times that I am sure, I met more than one in my youth.

Delivering a word of cheer, in my most trying teen times.
Letting me know that God was near, not very hard to find,

My thoughts steering me to another path, “Turn here,” as if to say,
Just a woman alone, driving in the dark, having lost my direction and way.

There were times of sharing of my own means, so that someone else could eat.
The good things done that I was sure, that no one else could see.

The times I cried of shame for scorn and for those I felt mocking me,
My lack, my struggles, my homelessness, years of pain and grief.

Their gestures, sighs, and faces spoke, without speaking just one word,
They weren’t aware the Holy presence, their secret talks were heard.

At times when times were rough and I had little faith,
Injured, sick, growing old, seemed like a repeated fate.

When faith renewed my path pursued, and then back in the race,
Happened again, caught in the wind, falling again down upon my face.

Then came my time, my season to shine, dancing the dance of victory,
And all along, it seemed that there, was someone there with me.

Words soon spoken within, my heart of all hearts, “I was always there”
Protecting, watching, seeing, helping, hearing all of your prayers,

The times when it seemed that no one cared, and you felt so all alone,
The times when you felt of a certainty, that all hope was surely gone.

I was there seeing all you did, when someone else needed someone to care,
Yes entertained again, and again, I was your Angel unaware.

So here I’ll tell you, rest assured, they are anyone, they are everywhere,
The one that you shame or entertain, could be an Angel unaware,
