Love Poem: Amber

Amber

You saw me in layers of protection,
  carapace emotions giving no yield,
as I lay in the thrall of reflection,
my heart beating slowly, encased in a shield.
My love shut it's eyes to the daylight,
fading into the dark in a sombre retreat,
engaged in the tolling of midnight,
surrendered in fear to a realm of defeat.
You devoured my build of defences,
  intricate touches, dismantled with care,
laying waste to the ramparts and fences,
gentle with coaxing and stripping them bare.
Like a butterfly freed of cocoon,
wings shining amber and flexed in the light,
you have shown me the stars and the moon,
and the meaning of love and the beauty of sight.
