A Tale of Immortal Love Part Iv

Why did his Janet take her life?
What made her think to hurt herself?
The questions were raising in his mind,
He could not seem to understand.

And so thinking his love was gone,
He chose to spend the years alone,
He never tried to find another Janet-
For there was only one.

Yes, Janet was the only one,
For no one could best her kind,
Her love so pure divine
Would shine in dusk or dawn.

But he was blind to see it so,
His heart was numb, as cold as snow,
He failed to treasure his jewel
For he thought it was just there.

He hoped his act of penitence
Would cast away his sour regrets,
The one for him was right in face
But he turned his back and left.

Oh, pure and chaste feeling
That went forever passing
For the heart that it was yearning
Has failed to see its meaning!

And so he found ways to amend,
He chose to work and work again
Wishing to build a monument
For the love that has perished.

Until one day when he went home
The face of Janet was at his door,
It was just like those younger days,
She never aged even a bit.

But it was not really Janet,
It was her daughter Anette,
She came to give Janet’s deathbed letter,
The letter reads like this:

“Please forgive me my dear Roger,
I tried and tried to wait for you,
And though my hand was taken by another,
My heart will always be for you”.

I wrote this around February 2021 to commemorate someone dear to my memory
