Love Poem: A Morning's Thought

A Morning's Thought

I want to wake up to the singing
Of a honey-feathered bird.
I want the warmth of love a-clinging
To each softly spoken word.
It would please me if the rain
Like notes would drip on through.
It would ease the tender pain
If they fell all over you.
I want the sun to bid its rays,
And make full the summer air.
I want one-hundred thousand days
To watch her golden hair.
It would please me if the skies,
Did darken all their hues.
For nothing but those eyes
Should hold such softest blues.
The Milky Way should glisten bright -
The birds around us sing.
For nothing more than your fair sight
Should daylight ever bring!
And if, my darling, a rose
Should flush out a rosy red.
Or its scent beneath your nose
Should make tilt your precious head;
Or if the golden sun should sink,
Like wine splashed on a picture.
Alas, such beauty to me I think
Is Nature’s sweetest mixture.
