A Modern Love Song

She was thin,
he was big,
she said hi,
he was shy,
she liked him,
(he liked her)
scared she asked,
scared he answered,
seconds later-
love at first light,
as two strangers opened arms,
smiling and sharing two hearts,
they could not get enough,
of the phsycadelic drug called "Love"
it was a good drug,
some few are-
and they loved each other over and over,
long walks to nowhere,
eating strange foods and teasing each other,
they loved each other.

Though love was there when young,
she smiled,
he smiled,
one winter day
-a long time ago,
she feel ill,
he feel heart-broke
she lay sick,
he stood by her side,
never leaving.

Love was running out,
they sang together,
she lay in bed,
he sit by her side,
they laugh of the past,
she cry,
he tries to hold tears,
trying to make lasting smiles
imprinted in her eternal memory.

Coming to him
with that soulful look on her face,
making his heart bright,
she made him know what it was to be loved.
Light she was,
and dark he was,
now the eternal light has shut off for her,
now he takes her torch and carries on.
Burden weighs heavy on his heart,
and the tears break through the levees of his eyes,
as inch by inch the old men lower her
into her grave of eternal rest.
He throws a rose,
a handful of dirt
and he whips away the tears,
and smiles.

It starts to rain,
the patrons leave,
like drunkards after the bars and taverns close,
and he smiles,
as it starts to rain blue.
The golden sun barely pokes her head out
from behind the clouds,
and shines on his forehead.

"Life eternal shall prosper,
even when Death has come to take away
the love from another."

etched on the tombstone
of his one and only lover,
he knees down in expensive dress pants,
and whispers to his lover's head;
"thank you my dear,
for all the laughs,
the great times,
and for showing what it means to love someone."

Soon the man,
kissed the tombstone;
said goodbye,
turned to the West (to a setting sun)
crossed his arms and slowly walked away.

Love shared,
such a bond,
too powerful to break,
not even Death could snap apart such lovers.
But the world keeps spinning,
and people keep forgetting,
as the roll of the dice commences,
lovers' hands get cut off
and their eyes plucked,
only to be left with etched memories
deep inside their minds
of once great and simple times.
