A Lovely Dream

"I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me" Psalm 3:5

I dreamt I walked along the beach,
Alone at the end of day.
The glory of the setting sun,
A masterpiece on display.

A reddish-gold sun sank into the ocean,
A glowing full moon took it's place.
Cries of the gulls echoed in the silence,
Accompanied by the breaking of waves.

A salty breeze around me sighed,
Wrapping me in it's cocoon.
And then I saw the strangest sight -
An old church nestled in the dunes.

Small it was and out of place,
This chapel by the sea.
A radiant light shone from within,
And gently beckoned me.

Inside I saw a rough-hewn cross,
Hanging from a rafter high.
Before it stood a simple altar,
A place to worship God Most High.

There were no lamps or candles burning,
Yet light shown all around,
And while I stood in silent wonder,
I heard a lovely sound.

Soft music filled the hallowed air,
Enveloping me in such peace.
"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,"
Brought me to my knees.

Lifting up my eyes, I saw Him,
My Savior gazing down at me.
The love in His eyes was overwhelming,
As He gently brought me to my feet.

He said, "I'm so glad to see you,"
"Welcome to this special place."
He spread His arms wide open,
And drew me into His embrace.

I felt so loved and cherished,
My worries and fears were relieved.
I never wanted to let Him go,
When I did I felt bereaved.

He said "Remember how much I love you,"
As He showed me His nail-scarred hands.
" I will never leave you nor forsake you,"
"No one can snatch you from my hand."

Then He kissed me on my forehead,
Said "Sweet dreams, my precious one."
And when I opened up my eyes,
I saw that He had gone.

It was then that I awakened,
As the alarm began to ring.
And I wondered: was this really just a lovely dream,
Or a visit from my King?
