A Little Bit of Kindness

A ittle boy of 9 or 10 said, "Want to buy some chips?" I replied, "How much and for what purpose?" The little boy told me, but I quickly forgot and asked the kid if he could change a twenty. He said no, but ran to check with an older sister of 12 or 13. They returned with $14, and I gave her the twenty. I was delighted to pay $6 for a bag of chips. Nice kids, polite, well dressed. But my heart bled as I drove away.

On the cold and wet pavement. On a misty and drizzly winter’s morn.
Crossing the intersection in clear view, was a gentleman without socks or shoes. Immediately I knew, though I did not know how, that I was not going to allow that scene to continue. Therefore, when the light turned green, I rushed to cut him off at the nearest driveway. I stopped as he approached in front of me and asked, “Where are your shoes?” His reply was, “Someone stole my shoes”. From my vehicle, I asked him to come to me. By the time he reached my vehicle, I had pulled off my shoes. When he reached my door, I said to him, “Here are your shoes.” I returned home, parked in my driveway, and walked barefooted to the side door of my garage. Now I was walking shoe less about 25 feet; and every step was wet and cold. For just a little while, I identified with my shoe less friend on the street; and I was very pleased that I shared my warm shoes with him.
I was getting gas, and a young lady appeared and asked, “Got any change?”. She was retrieving bottles and cans from the trash container when she spoke to me. I seldom have cash, and today was no exception. I reached into my pockets only to find it empty of any cash, even change. I then looked into my vehicle and found a quarter to give to her. She said, “Thank you”. As I drove away, I wanted to do so much more for the young lady, but only had a quarter to give. I do not want to experience that “ O my Lord” feeling again. That is why I went home and implemented my plan and placed the packages in my vehicle. These Mercy Packs contain various kinds of non perishable snacks, Gospel material, and a one dollar bill. I don’t know the lady's name, and I may never see her again. I have assigned to her a name that I shall remember as Angelica.
