Love Poem: A Dream For the New Year

A Dream For the New Year

I am blessed ...
To simply be drawing breath
With the keen cut of a bright winter eventide,
A blossom-tickled breeze of spring,
A long, warm kiss of summer anticipation,
Or a clear, crisp exhilaration of an autumn zephyr ...
To pull it, deep, into my lungs and being,
To let its voice and coursing whisper my soul,
And speak the appreciation of life and love to my marrow.
Oh, how dark the year behind me ...
Much of which is not worth the turn of my head
To gaze back upon in consideration -
Trial and illness and death and sorrow,
All showed their visages as stark and terrifying as ever.
Yet among it all, there were blessings,
Gifts given that I've yet to realize or know in their fullness,
The greatest of which is all I dream for the year to come,
All I truly require of the future ...
(All else will be added unto me in good time),
To simply be drawing breath.
Yes ... I am blessed.
