A Dear Jane Letter

A Dear Jane Letter

“Dear (Jane)…”, to my horror were the first words I read.
It was the line that hit hardest, my heart it did dread.
“I love you so much”, it went on to lie,
the hurt magnified, I wished I would die.
On I read, while the room spun around,
my tears in a tissue, dropped onto the ground.
“But I met someone else, we hit it off well.”
The words there in ink had broken his spell.
His mask fell away to reveal the beast,
its teeth ripping flesh, my heart it did feast.
A rose in my vase had started to wilt,
my heart turned as ice, a wall there was built.
I ripped up the letter and put it to flame.
Why had this happened? Was it me I should blame?
I sat in the darkness, hearing the beat of my heart,
with dreams of what once was, tearing me apart.
Then a voice I did hear, it gave some advice.
“Do not let him win or you’ll pay a greater price.”
“I see your pain”, it said with much grief.
“But you will move on, this is my belief.”
“Keep safe your heart, behind your stone wall,
but if you need a friend, you only need call.”
“This world we live in, has both good and bad,
from a smile when your glad to a frown when your sad.”
“It’s the good and the bad, that make us all whole,
like the Yin and the Yang, make peace with your soul.”
“When you are ready”, it said, in a light friendly voice,
“the world will be brighter, please make the right choice.”
It will take some time, and I knew he was right.
I’d be very cautious, but not give up the fight.
I got off of the floor, now I’m standing quite tall.
For I am worth more, than the beast ever saw.
