Love Poem: A Bitter Cup

A Bitter Cup

How fine the lines 'twixt love's traits
From sweet embrace to darkest thought,
A cruel harbinger, fickle fate
In whose grip I am now caught.

My feelings, there on display
My racing heart in love, delighted!
Yet no lovers kiss came my way,
Alas my love went unrequited.

Love was toying with my mind
Causing havoc, oh the pain,
Love, why art thou so unkind
What of my heart will still remain.

A heart aflame cast the spell
And sent my soul skywards, flying,
Then burned my wings, to earth I fell,
Just charred remains lay now, crying.

I have known the exultant feelings,
Love's potent brew, I have supped,
Only to have my heart sent reeling
And left to drain love's bitter cup.
