Love Poem: Walking Alone

Walking Alone

Walking alone among the sand dunes at dusk.
Getting back to reality, she knew was a must.
For she had been walking since sunup that day.
She went to the beach,..just had to get away.

Going to the dunes at Bodega Bay
seemed a good idea at the start.
Get some fresh air. Get rid of the decay,
that was growing daily in her heart.

For this is the beach where she once walked with him,
holding hands and embracing along the way.
At times they would stop and go for a swim.
So happy and in love, were they.

This is where he had asked her to be his wife.
She said, “yes”, with a tear in her eye.
With him she wanted to spend her whole life.
A smile and a tear were his reply.

They got married and spent the night at the inn.
Happier times, she thought, she’d never known.
Her new life was about to begin.
No more love had she ever been shown.

They went to sleep wrapped in each others arms.
Was it possible to be this content?
Or was she just taken by his charms?
Could he be heaven sent?

When she woke the very next morning
there was no one in bed next to her.
He had left her without any warning.
The evening before was a blur.

She ran down the stairs and asked the innkeeper,
“Has anyone seen my new groom?”
He looked at her, turned off the sweeper,
shrugged his shoulders and picked up a broom.

She asked him again where her husband had gone.
He looked at her in the strangest way.
“Miss, you checked in last night, alone!
Will you be having our breakfast buffet?”

Was this all a dream, she thought in her mind.
Was she losing grip on her reality?
How could life be so unkind?
Was this the final blow to her mortality?

Up the stairs she ran in disbelief,
to gather up their things.
When she got there, no clothes did she see.
And on her finger there was no ring.

Now, walking alone among the dunes of sand,
is what she does. She just can’t stay away.
For she’s still looking for that man.
And she BELIEVES she will find him some day.
