Writing Love Poems for Your Boyfriend or Husband

by PoetrySoup

Sometimes in life, two people meet and there is undeniable chemistry between them. Sparks fly and there is a connection instantly. Love happens around us all the time, but oftentimes we are too busy to notice it. For those who are able to take the time to bask in the warmth and wonder that is love, it is a great feeling. Love is what happens when there is an undeniable attraction between two people, and they decide that they would like to do whatever is necessary to make the person to whom they are attracted happy. No matter what age you are, it is completely possible for everyone to fall in love.

Writing Love Poetry Keeps the Romance Alive

While falling in love is certainly a wonderful phenomenon, staying in love is even better. Those who have been in a long-term relationship will tell you that one of the greatest feelings in the world is to be deeply in love with the same person today that you were in love with years ago. The real question, however, is how to keep the fire burning and keep the spark alive. No one wants to be in a relationship that gets old, boring, and stale. One way to make sure that the romance stays alive and your partner always knows that you love him is through the use of love poetry. The impact of a touching, romantic poem should never be underestimated. Words can go a very long way in conveying our feelings, and poetry seems to be a universal language that touches people in all countries. While all people are touched by poetry, men especially can benefit from having their significant other write them sappy, love-filled pieces of rhyming literature.

Whether you enjoy writing poetry yourself, you hire someone to write a poem for your significant other, or you find a touching piece of work online or in the library, the man in your life is sure to appreciate the effort that you have put into finding the poem that is exactly right for him and your relationship. There are several ways that poetry can benefit your man.

One of these such ways is through helping your man to know that you truly do love him. There are many ways to help someone realize you love them, such as showing it through your actions or coming right out and telling them. Poetry, however, is a very different form of expressing your feelings and love for someone. It can often create a much deeper connection between two people than simply acting out your love. By investing hours into finding or writing the perfect poem for your boyfriend or husband will know without a doubt that there is a serious romantic connection between the two of you.

Saying That You Love Him

Poetry can also be a great way to help your significant other know that you are committed to him. Saying that you love him is easy, and showing it, while slightly more difficult, can be a simple task if you know the right things to do. With poetry, however, there is a deeper connection, a greater commitment that is signified. With poetry, each word has a deeper meaning, each phrase signifies an intense commitment, and each line shows your significant other that you truly want to be with him forever.

In addition to improving the romance in your relationship and showing your commitment to your significant other, poetry can also have a very calming effect on the man in your life. The rhythmic sound of poetry can have an incredibly soothing impact on anyone, but it can be especially calming when it comes from someone who loves you. Thanks to its rhymes or its simple, bouncing rhythm, poetry is one of the best ways to calm someone's nerves and make them feel completely at peace.

With all of the amazing effects that poetry can have on people, it is no wonder that millions of people turn to it as a way to express their undying love and unwavering commitment to their lovers. People turn to poetry when their words fail; it can be a very personal way to express one's feelings when simple words, gifts, or actions do not seem like enough. Poetry has innumerable benefits, so it should be no surprise that there have been thousands of poems written over a variety of subjects. One reoccurring theme that seems to dominate the poetry forefront is, of course, love.

Famous Women Poets and Their Love Poems

Thousands of poets have written love poems, including many women who have written to the important men in their lives. One of the most famous love poems written by a woman is "Wild Nights," which was written by one of the most famous American female poets of all time, Emily Dickinson.

Wild Nights -- Wild Nights!
Were I with thee
Wild Nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile -- the Winds --
To a Heart in port --
Done with the Compass --
Done with the Chart!

Rowing in Eden --
Ah, the Sea!
Might I but moor -- Tonight --
In Thee!

Usually, her poems had a much more somber tone, which was expected from women of her time. This poem, however, is incredibly passionate. It is unknown whom Dickinson was writing this poem for, but its touching words, passionate phrasing, and loving tone make it arguably one of the greatest love poems of all time.

Yet another great love poem written to a man is "How Do I Love Thee" by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Browning's life story is nothing if not romantic. She was afforded a good education, which was uncommon for women in England during the Victorian period. She began writing poetry at a young age. Eventually, she met and fell in love with another writer by the name of Robert Browning. Elizabeth's father did not like Robert, so the two eloped to Italy, where they could get married and enjoy their romantic life in peace. Elizabeth wrote the poem for Robert as a sign of their undying love for each other. The first line of the poem, "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." is one of the most quoted lines in love poetry.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

With Elizabeth's beautiful writing style, it is no wonder that this poem has skyrocketed to fame in the world of love poetry.
