Love Poem: Adrift

Adrift

Well, we were on rafts, laughing at the boats.
You talked food; I was talking animals.
Straight from the heart while they were talking quotes
regurgitated from TV channels.

Floating from one to another island;
we were young, in love and adrift at sea.
Dreams coming true without even trying,
and that is how it was supposed to be.

We didn’t get lost till we settled on shore
and neon intercepted our wishes.
Limited their hopefulness in folklore;
it blinded two kindred accomplices.

Never wanted to be part of this race,
but life comes around and laughs in your face.
