Across the River

Across the River

Lightening flashed and thunder roared
And across flowing river had to ford;
River incessantly did run so fast;
Would it make their moment the very last?

Rain came down and continued to fall;
Saddled my horse who was in his stall;
Rode to river to se who may be there;
What had happened was hard to bare.

Wife and husband were washed downstream;
Both are in heaven now it does seem;
Were great people who I'll never forget;
See shadow of their ghosts when sun does set.
