A Letter To My Fireman

I'm not quite sure why
But I miss you
Now that you're gone
I only see the good
Your sweet smile,
With your cute little dimples
Your innocent eyes
that gazed at me with adoration
And how you'd hold me close
When you knew I was upset--
really truly upset

Do you remember that day
I drove all night just to see you
And when I wanted to cry
I was afraid to
But you proved me wrong
And you were there for me
It was the first time
I really knew you felt for me

For so long
I wouldn't open up to you
I held back my life from you
And then one day
When you stumbled upon my past
And I was cornered into talking
I was aftraid to
But you proved me wrong
And you were there for me
Listening to every word
It was the first time
I really opened up to you

You were great,
and still now, you are
truly a great person
A friend, a son, a brother
And in some way,
even a hero
But still, I'll always remember
Though I hardly think of it
I'll still recall
You were plenty times
Selfish
Arrogant
Inconsiderate
and uncaring
Always feeling the need to hide your feelings
Your thoughts
I understand you
Really, I do
You didn't have the greatest example
the greatest life
But it's no excuse for how you treated me
The thing is
I probably wouldn't have cared
I probably would've stayed with you
If I didn't like you so much
but I did
And even now, sometimes,
I think I still do
I hope that always,
Life will treat you well
And that in time, you'll be
The man I know you are inside
