A Day In June

A Day In June

We had a picnic here that June
And laughed as rabbits played
We should have been back home by dark,
But we were young and stayed

'Twas a day the world was perfect
The smells the breeze and she
Nature put forth the best it had
And she had chosen me

We stopped the world a little while
And smiled that it was so
We held each other in our arms -
It wasn't long ago

Too soon the world began to turn
And swallowed up our love
The Summer days were gone and left
The darkened clouds above

Life moved on and took us with it -
We'd different seeds to sow.
But I recall that day in June -
It wasn't long ago
